The Lenoir County Democratic Office is hosting an election party for the last night of the DNC

LENOIR COUNTY, NC (WITN) – A campaign office in Eastern Carolina hosted a party as current Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris took the stage, concluding the final day of the Democratic National Convention.

Even though the convention was held in Chicago, applause for Harris could be heard even here in Eastern Carolina.

“There’s a whole different energy now,” said Democratic candidate for Secretary of Agriculture Sarah Taber. “People were already excited and ready to fight, but now they’re excited in a different way.”

On Thursday, the Lenoir County community packed its Democratic headquarters to witness the final night of the convention.

“It’s really exciting to see so many people who care about their future, who care about what’s happening to them,” said Democratic House candidate Lillie Williams for the 12th District.

For Lenoir County, this was more than a campaign party. It was also the official opening of the Democratic campaign office. Party Chairman Jimmy Cochran says this office is important for the community to raise awareness.

“Some people don’t even know there’s an election in November. So we want to let people know that they actually need to vote this year,” Cochran said.

Harris had previously spoken about hard work being good work, a statement that has stuck in the minds of many, including Democratic 3rd Senate District candidate Charles Dudley.

“I served in the Marine Corps for 22 years, it’s so hard work that I’m not allergic to it,” Dudley said.

Kinston resident Derrick White attended the election party and was excited to hear Harris address the issues he believes are crucial to the election.

“Everyone is beating around the bush when it comes to the real issue, which is what they’re going to do about the economy and inflation,” White said.

The convention may be over, but one big question remains: Can the Democrats carry this momentum into November when it’s time to go to the polls?

Only time will tell as the clock counts down in the race for the White House.
