BOARDMAN – John “Jack” Byrns, 81, entered the Kingdom of God on his heavenly Harley on Sunday, June 23, 2024.

He was born on September 9, 1942 in Willoughby to Henry B. Byrns and Elizabeth J. Byrns.

Jack married the love of his life, Peggy Wittenauer, on February 6, 1976, and was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

Jack is survived by his five children, Jack Byrns Jr., Mark Byrns, Kimberly Perry (Scott), Jennifer Stran (Jeff), and Scott Byrns; nine grandchildren, Kayla (Carlos), Rebekah, Sarah, Phillip, Matthew, Rachel, Braiden, Preston, and Julia; two great-grandchildren, Leonardo and Mila; and his faithful dog, Buckeye.

His parents and his sister Barbara Anderson predeceased him.

Jack moved to Boardman at age 5. He attended Boardman High School before joining the U.S. Marine Corps at age 17. He served on the USS Monticello during the Vietnam War and proudly served his country from 1960 to 1966.

After military service, he tirelessly and faithfully supported his family by working at General Motors in Lordstown and later at the Assumption Nursing Home, the Boardman Schools, and as a long-distance truck driver.

Jack loved the outdoors, including boating, fishing, gardening, and riding his Harley. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR races and spending time with his family, especially his wife.

A man of many stories, some true and some not so true, all leading to inspiring conclusions. A man of true integrity, Jack would not back down under any circumstances, regardless of whether anyone had any idea what his words meant. He was known for his gregarious nature and never met a stranger who did not become a friend. A man with simple taste in Levis and t-shirts, he focused on giving everything he could to others. His family, friends and neighbors will miss him dearly.

His family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Hospice House, especially Keli and Sarah, for their extraordinary love and care.

A full military service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the Rossi Brothers and Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave., Boardman. Visitation hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Youngstown, OH 44514.

Family and friends are asked to pray for the family and offer support via phone call, text, email or visit the book of memories at www.rossifuner.
