There is nothing better than getting a lot of good food for little money.
And this view is especially true of two places in Pennsylvania that a recent study found to be among the best places for “cheap food” anywhere.
SavingSpot — an arm of CashNetUSA that, according to its About Us page, aims to help people “find better ways to budget, manage their money and save for the future, even when life gets in the way” — released a report last month on “The Best Places for Cheap Eats in Every State.”
These locations were found after SavingSpot researchers first compiled a list of five-star rated eateries, fast food outlets and restaurant chains in over 500 cities across the United States.
The researchers then manually checked each restaurant’s Yelp page to confirm whether the top-rated establishments actually offer food at budget-friendly prices (determined by the “$” on the review page). Customer reviews were also taken into account.
A place in none other than Lancaster – The BBQ Barn – has made it into the top five cheap restaurants in the entire country, now ranking fifth overall.
And Pennsylvania’s representation doesn’t end there: When asked about the best cheap but great restaurants in big U.S. cities, Knead Bagels in Philadelphia received the honorable nod (or “knod,” we should say).
The restaurant that topped the list nationally was Antojitos Izcalli in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
A review of the Mexican-Southwestern takeout joint states: “The food was just amazing, we both had stuffed burritos with a mix of red and green sauce and they were divine. The prices are insanely affordable. During our visit it was full of very happy people, many of whom said it wasn’t their first or even second visit that week.”
May your bellies be full without your wallets being empty.
