Celebrity Race Across the World’s Freddy Brazier spends tight budget on heartwarming gift

Freddy Brazier from Celebrity Race Across the World received a telling off from his dad after he squandered part of their budget on a necklace and a gift for his grandmother.

The 19-year-old and his father, TV presenter Jeff, are taking part in the current season of the BBC show, which sees them racing from Brazil to Chile on a shoestring budget of £2,200. The pair are keeping an eye on every penny to make sure they have enough to get them the whole way.

But in the final episode on August 28, Freddy decided to spend £10 on presents, including a keyring for his grandmother and a necklace for himself. To recoup the money and make amends, he ended up taking a job lugging huge barrels of iced tea up and down Copacabana beach.

Freddy bought the gifts himself in a snap, confessing in an on-camera post: “I spent part of our budget without asking. I bought a keyring for my grandma and a gift for someone else. And it’s only, what, £10.”

This all came to light later when Jeff asked him about their budget while they were tallying up what they had left. Freddy showed him his new necklace and confessed, “I bought this at the bus stop.”

His father seemed upset that Freddy was “taking things out of the budget and not even telling me.” “That’s quite a lot,” he said. “Don’t you think I deserved to be asked, just because it’s our budget… why didn’t you do it?”

However, Freddy insisted that he would pay the money back to make it up to you. “Since I contributed to the budget, I’ll do some work while you relax in Rio,” he vowed. “Just watch me.”

“I appreciate that,” Jeff replied.

When the stars arrived in Rio, the teenager made good on his word and got a job as an iced tea waiter on Copacabana Beach. Dressed in a bright orange uniform, he lugged two huge barrels of the drink across the beach while his father watched.

However, his enthusiasm waned as the barrels became increasingly heavy on his shoulders, and Freddy soon turned to his father for help.

“My shoulders are tearing,” he said. “Why did I sign up for this?” “Now it’s your turn!” he said to Jeff, complaining that his neck and back hurt.

“You should, shouldn’t you?” his father replied. “Why am I replacing what you spent? This is your mess, you have to clean this up!”

The teenager went back to the task and his father said how proud he was when he finished it. “Good job, Freddy,” he said, patting him on the shoulder.

Despite this week’s luxury spending, Jeff and Freddy remain in the lead with a budget of £1,236.77, so it wasn’t too bad after all. That leaves them with 56% of their budget still in their pocket as the race continues. They also remain favourites to win the BBC show.

Kelly Brook and Jeremy Parisi follow closely behind with £1,111.57 or 51% of the budget. Jeremy is very ambitious and has his sights set on winning the show, so when Brook insists on taking a taxi, Jeremy tries to convince her otherwise. By comparison, Scott Mills and Sam Vaughan only have £1,088.06 left, which is just 49% of the budget.

The team with the least budget left is Kola Bokinni and his cousin Mary Ellen, who only had 46% of their budget left. They also finished in fourth place this week, but next week it looks like disaster is in store for them as Bokinni loses his passport.
