Oklahoma Voice celebrates its first anniversary. Do you support local journalism? • Oklahoma Voice

Can you believe it’s been a year since Oklahoma Voice first published its free, nonpartisan news and commentary designed to help expand Oklahomans’ knowledge of the inner workings of government?

From uncovering the reasons why students standardized test scores suddenly rose to investigate the intersection of State politics and Oklahoma’s indigenous communitieswas our first year full of new stories that helped shed light on important issues that might otherwise have gone unnoticed.

Thanks to the hard work of our staff, contributors and columnists, demand for Oklahoma Voice content has continued to grow. Our reporting, never behind a paywall, has been republished or mentioned thousands of times. To train the next generation of reporters for state government, we launched an internship program and selected a promising Oklahoma State University journalism student to work in our newsroom over the summer.

One of our founding reporters, Nuria Martinez-Keel, recently received our newsroom’s first award in a state journalism competition for her in-depth reporting on the exodus of textbook publishers.

But no matter how many awards we win, how often our articles are republished, or how many articles we write, we know that the people who read this message are largely responsible for our success. They are some of the first Oklahomans to support our mission and believe in our product. They are the ones who return to our website week after week, subscribe to our free newsletter, and help us come up with ideas for our articles and thought-provoking columns.

I have big dreams for Oklahoma Voice in the coming months and years and your donations will help us continue to succeed.

We are celebrating our first birthday and hope you will join us in celebrating by supporting our journalism with a donation.

I’m excited to see what our second year has in store for us and I hope you are, too.
