Lilly Tuck and Patrick Thygesen receive the 2023–24 BIG EAST Institutional Scholar Athlete Awards

PROVIDENCE, RI – The BIG EAST Conference announced the 2023-24 Institutional Scholar-Athlete Awards for men and women on August 27. Providence College Cross Country/Track and Field Athletes Lilly Tuck (Sunderland, Ontario) and Patrick Thygesen (Brisbane, Australia) were both honored with this award.

Tuck, who graduated with honors in May with a double major in psychology and biology, finished her academic career with a 3.83 overall grade point average. She was named to the All-BIG EAST Academic Team four times. During her senior year at Providence, she helped the cross country and track teams excel. Tuck scored points in all five cross country races she competed in in 2023-24, including the NCAA Cross Country Championship. During the indoor season, Tuck won the 5,000 meters at the Boston University Terrier Classic. She also earned All-BIG EAST honors in the 5,000 meters after placing second at the BIG EAST Indoor Championship. During the outdoor season, Tuck finished third in the 5,000 meters at the Penn Relays. She also competed in the 10,000 meters at the NCAA Outdoor Regionals.

Thygesen graduated from Providence in May with honors with a degree in quantitative economics and mathematics. He was selected to the All-BIG EAST Academic Team three times and graduated with an overall GPA of 3.78. He earned All-BIG EAST honors when he won the steeplechase at the 2024 BIG EAST Outdoor Track Championships. He also earned All-BIG EAST honors when he helped lead the distance relay to a second-place finish at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track Championships. He earned another All-BIG EAST honor when he placed 18th.th at the 2023 BIG EAST Cross Country Championship. Thygesen competed in the NCAA Outdoor Regional Track Championships in the steeplechase. This year, he returns to Providence for graduate studies to pursue a master’s degree in economics.
