Croc is making a comeback – and so is publisher Argonaut – Games Asylum

Hardly a week goes by without a revival of the mascot platformer being announced. Therefore, it was inevitable that Crocodile legend of the Gobbos would return at some point. But not only the popular PSone platformer is celebrating a comeback, but also publisher Argonaut, which disappeared from the gaming landscape in 2004.

An HD remake of Croc Legend of the Gobbos for consoles and PC – with modern controls and a digital museum – is the first of many projects planned, with Argonaut looking to bring its intellectual property to both modern and retro platforms. Starglider and Starglider 2 seem likely, as does Croc 2.

Gary Sheinwald, Co-CEO of Argonaut Games, expressed his excitement: “I worked closely with Jez on the design and production of Starglider, Argonaut’s first big hit in 1986, so taking on the task of relaunching Argonaut Games nearly four decades later is a real full-circle experience for me. We have even more exciting announcements in the pipeline in the coming months.”

Jez San OBE, who originally founded Argonaut Software in 1982, was equally enthusiastic about the revival: “I’m delighted to see the Argonaut name back after twenty years. Argonaut has always been about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in gaming. I’m excited to see the relaunched Argonaut Games build on that legacy, starting with the remaster of Croc Legend of the Gobbos.”

Croc Legend of the Gobbos is set to be released later this year. Here’s the trailer:
