LACMA’s Art + Film Gala is going to be a lot of fun this year.
The museum has announced that Charli XCX will perform at this year’s event, and the evening will be dedicated to filmmaker Baz Luhrmann and artist Simone Leigh.
Art + Film is one of Los Angeles’ must-attend events for Hollywood’s most famous faces, as well as leaders in media, technology, fashion and the arts. This year’s celebration, co-chaired by Eva Chow and Leonardo DiCaprio and presented by Gucci, takes place on November 2 at LACMA in Los Angeles.
“Simone Leigh is one of the most compelling and important voices in contemporary art, brilliantly bridging a range of different artistic traditions and centering Black female issues in powerful and moving ways,” LACMA CEO and Wallis Annenberg Director Michael Govan said in a statement Wednesday morning. “Baz Luhrmann has created an emotional body of cinematic work over three decades, driven by his imagination and passion. We are delighted to honor him along with Simone and celebrate their remarkable careers.”
LACMA and the California African American Museum (CAAM) are currently showing “Simone Leigh,” the artist’s most comprehensive exhibition on the West Coast to date. The exhibition at both institutions runs through January 20, 2025.
