If the world didn’t know who Rachael “Raygun” Gunn was before, then they certainly got a clue after the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 36-year-old Australian professor became a viral sensation after receiving zero points for her spirited breakdancing performance and quickly being eliminated from the competition. That could have been the end of the story, but it seems Gunn just got the career boost I was hoping to hear about, which could lead to more future opportunities.
After her emotional message thanking fans for their positivity garnered a lot of criticism, Variety reported that Rachael Gunn has reportedly signed with Born Bred Talent. This update followed rumors that suggested she might appear on the British reality series. I’m a celebrity…get me out of here! for season 11.
A reality TV appearance on a celebrity show can definitely serve as a career springboard that opens up further opportunities. Now that she is reportedly represented, I could imagine that the network executives are vying for her appearance on Celebrity Big Brother, The Masked Singerand other shows that utilize talent and intelligence and where the audience is interested in learning more about their personal story.
Not only everything about this infamous Olympic event that was parodied on The Tonight Show and elsewhere online, but also their life events before and after. But since it has surfaced…
Watch on
As much as I love to see Second City And Saturday Night Live Veteran Rachel Dratch on my TV screen. Maybe now that she has some representation, Rachael Gunn can be the one to parody herself next time? It seems the parodies happen no matter what she thinks about them, so it would be helpful to have some representation and get at least a few appearances out of the fun.
Halle Berry just confessed a secret about carrying the Olympic torch that I would never have guessed
I was surprised to learn this.
I don’t know about anyone else, but I personally would love to use my Netflix subscription to watch a Raygun documentary at some point, just to relive the events from start to finish and hear their side of the story and that of everyone else who was there.
I also can’t help but believe that Rachael Gunn has the potential to be the next Olympian to get a feature film, as we saw with Eddie the Eagle. I can’t sit here and pretend that they have completely similar stories, apart from the fact that they were both underdogs whose participation in the Olympics was an achievement in and of itself. If this film came out today, I’m sure there would be a whole lot of people lining up to see it, and maybe a few kangaroo jumps in the crowd.
The question is, how long will the world be obsessed with Raygun? The internet has been collectively obsessed with “Hawk Tuah” girl Hailey Welch, and when she took the stage at a Zach Bryan concert, there seemed to be a backlash for capitalizing on her popularity. Could the same thing happen to Rachael Gunn as she makes appearances at various events and television shows? Only time will tell.
As I look at the 2024 TV schedule, I’m starting to look at the possible shows that Raygun could appear in. I’m crossing my fingers that she will be added to the cast of Dancing with the stars Season 33, especially since another popular Olympic athlete is already in the cast.
