Former India opener Aakash Chopra and former England captain Michael Vaughan were critical of the Pakistan team after their embarrassing defeat to Bangladesh in the opening Test of the series. The Shan Masood-led side suffered a shocking defeat to Najmul Hossain Shanto’s team in the first Test at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. After four days, the match seemed to be heading for a draw but on the final day, the Bangladesh spinners turned the game around and secured a crucial win that improved their position in the ICC World Test Championship points table.

In the first innings of the match, Pakistan lost three wickets for 16 runs after having to bat first on the first day. However, Saud Shakeel (141) and Mohammad Rizwan (171) steadied the innings and guided Pakistan to a respectable total of 448/6d. With the ball, Pakistan’s bowlers struggled to take wickets. They had particular difficulty against Mushfiqur Rahim, who scored an excellent 191 runs, while Shadman Islam (93) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (77) also contributed significantly to Bangladesh’s total of 565 runs. In the third innings, Pakistan’s batting collapsed and they were dismissed for a disappointing 146 runs. Bangladesh were set a small target of 30 runs to achieve and achieved it comfortably with a 10-wicket win.

After the match, Aakash Chopra on X poked fun at the hosts. He sarcastically commented that it is rare for a team to lose after finishing their first innings with over 400 runs and four wickets remaining. He added, “Pakistani cricket is a gift that keeps on giving.”

Meanwhile, Vaughan also criticised the Pakistan team, saying they were in a state of disarray, while praising Bangladesh for their impressive win over the hosts.

“What a great win for Bangladesh…!! Quality performance… Pakistan are really in a mess… #PAKvBAN,” Michael Vaughan said on X.

In the ICC World Test Championship points table, Team India is ranked first with a PCT of 68.52, followed by Australia in second place with a PCT of 62.50. After their victory over Pakistan, Bangladesh has climbed to 6th place with a PCT of 40.00. The Pakistan national cricket team, on the other hand, has dropped to 8th place with a PCT of 30.56.
