Veteran actress Saira Banu, who recently celebrated her 80th birthday, shared that “life can be measured in many ways.” On Sunday afternoon, Saira posted a series of pictures from her birthday celebrations on Instagram.

She captioned it: “How do we really measure a life? Is it measured by the milestones or the fleeting moments that quietly pass by only to be remembered later? Perhaps the anniversaries that come around every year, like an old friend who never fails to visit.”

“If you ask me, life can be measured in many ways. I believe it is in the company of your own people, the people who love you. I consider myself blessed and gifted by the affection and support of my family and friends.”

“I am thankful to my son @rehanahmed_bjp, son of my eldest brother Sultan Bhai and his daughter Shaheen who made a special effort to be in Mumbai as she commutes between Chennai and Mumbai most of the time.”

She further thanked her “great nieces Anaiya and Ansharah, especially Anaiya who organized the whole event and filled my house with beautiful decorations and radiant joy.”

“They both insisted that I go out to eat because they knew I didn’t leave my house often and found comfort inside. But my family, who are my rock, made my 80th birthday a day I adore the most. Their mere presence was enough to fill my home with light.”

She then spoke about her friends, including actress Fareeda Jalal. “I am also thankful for my friends who bring joy in my life – Dr Meera Agarwal, Farida Jalal (the exceptionally wonderful actress and my amazing friend), her son Yaseen, my dear friends Mani Talati and Mehfooza, her daughter Shaista, Azra Lokhandwala Ji and @moinbeg (who conceptualised the wonderful Heeramandi). I am blessed to have them all around me to make my day and my life an experience.”

She said there are many ways to measure life. “So how do you measure life? While there are many ways, I believe the truest measure is found in a room full of family and friends, a table filled with plenty of food, and an invisible thread called love. Thank God for family and friends!”
