LAS VEGAS, Nevada, August 28, 2024 (SEND2PRESS NEWSWIRE) — As medical science advances, researchers are gaining a better understanding of how the human body works. The brain is no exception, and a relatively new field of connectomics is now analyzing how neurons in the brain are connected to one another. Board-certified psychiatrist Dr. John Reitano is applying this growing knowledge to help people with major depression, anxiety, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), and other conditions at Delve Psychiatry in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Specifically, Dr. Reitano uses connectomics to personalize treatment with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). TMS is an FDA-approved, non-invasive, and drug-free option that uses magnetic waves to stimulate activity in the brain.

To help patients achieve the best outcomes, Dr. Reitano and the team at Delve Psychiatry first have the patient undergo functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). With the fMRI report in hand, Dr. Reitano can analyze the brain and potentially identify networks that may be contributing to the patient’s mental health symptoms.

This allows him to customize and target TMS treatment to those specific neural networks, ideally leading to better outcomes. Dr. Reitano has successfully used TMS therapy personalized with fMRI reports to help individuals with major depressive disorder (i.e., depression), OCD, ADHD, and chronic pain.

With a personalized plan, Dr. Reitano and the team at Delve Psychiatry can use TMS to stimulate underactive parts of the brain, encourage the formation of new neural networks, and normalize brain activity. This option can be particularly effective for people who have tried other treatments with little or no success.

Dr. Reitano tailors his treatment recommendations to the patient, but most people who choose TMS receive treatment five days a week for about six weeks. Each session typically lasts about half an hour, and most patients report it being comfortable. Additionally, there is no downtime with TMS. Patients can return to their daily lives immediately after their appointment at Delve Psychiatry.

To stay on the cutting edge of TMS and related treatments, Dr. Reitano regularly attends conferences and meetings with leading researchers, biomedical engineers, and clinicians working in the field. He recently attended the New York Neuromodulation Conference 2024, where attendees came together to advance their understanding of how modulating brain networks impacts clinical insights.

Dr. Reitano has also been invited to the Connectomics Circle Member Summit in Houston in late September 2024. Neurosurgeons, neurologists and other psychiatrists in this group share a shared mission to advance connectomics and brain network analysis.

Patients who want to take advantage of the latest innovations in mental health combined with a personalized treatment approach can find that at Delve Psychiatry. Located in the Las Vegas Medical District, Dr. Reitano and the Delve team offer TMS treatments in addition to medication management, psychotherapy, and ketamine infusion therapy.
