  • Braff’s role as a drug-addicted doctor in episode 3 of “Bad Monkey” ends tragically, generating great anticipation for his return to “Scrubs.”

Zach Braff’s guest appearance in Apple’s new crime comedy series Evil Monkey got me much more excited about the recently confirmed reboot of Scrubs. Vince Vaughn leads the cast of Evil Monkey as a former Miami detective trying to get his job back after being demoted to health inspector. Evil Monkey is one of the many shows of the successful television producer Bill Lawrenceto his other works Ted Lasso (2020-2023), shrinkage (2023- ), Cougar City (2009-2015) and Scrubs (2001-2010). Evil Monkey follows Vaughn’s Andrew Yancy, who stumbles upon a severed human arm and believes this is his return to the police force after being demoted to restaurant inspector in the Florida Keys.

Evil Monkey is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Carl Hiaasen from 2013who has written several other comedic crime thrillers set in Florida. Evil Monkey has received great reviews upon its release, holding a strong Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 92% at the time of writing. Evil Monkey is the first television series in which Vaughn appears since True Detective Season 2, which was released in 2015, although he guest starred in several episodes of Curb your enthusiasm Seasons 10-12. Evil Monkey Season 1, Episode 2 ends with the connection between the two series protagonists Andrew and Neville.

Zach Braff is hilarious as a drug-addicted doctor in Apple TV+’s Bad Monkey Show

Braff’s Israel O’Peele is a great addition to the Apple comedy series

His back and forth with Vince Vaughn is one of the highlights of
Evil Monkey
so far, which makes me wish he had played a more central character in the series.

Zach Braff does not appear in Evil Monkey to episode 3 entitled “Nobody Said He Was Alvin Einstein.” Evil Monkey Episode 3 was released on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, August 21, 2024 and is one of the funniest episodes of the dramedy series yet, with many thanks to Braff, who plays a drug-addicted doctor named Israel O’PeeleAlthough Braff’s guest appearance lasts only a few scenes, Evil Monkey Episode 3, that was all I needed to look forward to his return Scrubswhich is rumored to show a darker side of its legendary protagonist JD.

Braff really feels at his comedic best in Evil Monkeystealing every scene in which he appears as a paranoid and inappropriately medicated, reclusive doctor who gets too involved with the wrong people. His back and forth with Vince Vaughn is one of the highlights of Evil Monkey so far, which makes me wish he had played a more central role in the series. Still, Braff was the best part of every scene he appeared in, which is high praise considering the strong actors he worked with in Evil Monkey. Perhaps his role as a drug-addicted doctor in Bad Monkey was a warm-up role for his expected return as an older JD in Scrubs Season 10.

What Zach Braff and series creator Bill Lawrence said about season 10 of “Scrubs”

Braff and Scrubs Creator Bill Lawrence, who also happens to Evil Monkey for television, have both the upcoming sequel to their beloved Scrubs series. Braff recently discussed with Screen Rant his vision of what an older JD would look like in Scrubs Season 10.”Well, I think that… You know, JD is a grown man now, and so Scrubs would still have his fantasy. But I think he’s more in the position of Dr. Cox these days. He’s the chief medical officer of the hospital.”

Braff continued: “I think it would be interesting to see him long for the innocence of his youth and find ways to get back to the character that everyone fell in love with. For me, it would be interesting to see him lose some of his joy and go in search of some of the joy of his youth..” Lawrence also recently confirmed the return of Scrubs to television and said:I’m open to it. We’re definitely going to do it, just because we all have so much fun hanging out together. I’m open to it and I don’t want to do it as a movie, but I’m definitely open to doing this show for a few more years..”

What happened to Braff’s Israel O’Peele character in Bad Monkey Episode 3?

Braff’s character did not survive the end of the episode

Braff’s involvement in Evil Monkey Episode 3 was unfortunately short-lived. He was surprisingly killed off after only a few scenes, which is a real shame because he and Vaughn were great together and it would have been entertaining to see Braff in his dysfunctional role on a larger scale. It looks like Braff’s Israel O’Peele was killed in his own apartment by a gunshot wound to the back of the head. While the killer’s identity has not yet been confirmed, it looks like Christopher (Rob Delaney) killed him because he was one of the many people who knew about his insurance fraud to live a life of luxury in the Bahamas.

New episodes of Bad Monkey appear every Wednesday on Apple TV+.
