Vendor shot dead after party on D’Urban Street, five others injured

Police said they are investigating a shooting incident which occurred at approximately 5:45am this morning at 23 D’Urban Street, Lodge, Georgetown, which resulted in the death of Anthony Havercome, a 40-year-old trader from South Ruimveldt, who was shot multiple times.

A police statement said an ‘All Black’ party was taking place at V’S Flavor Delight, 23 D’Urban Street, Lodge, and the party was broken up by police at around 5am.

A 37-year-old businessman and host of the All Black party said he was on the north side of D’Urban Street doing clean-up work where the party was taking place when he heard several loud explosions.

When asked where they were coming from, the businessman said he saw a black car speeding westbound down D’Urban Street. The businessman said he then saw several people who appeared to be covered in blood and he helped load them into different vehicles and take them to the hospital.

Examinations were conducted at the GPHC and Travis Ceres, a 25-year-old street vendor from East La Penitence, sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen. Teon Allen, a 38-year-old unemployed man from Sophia, sustained a gunshot wound to the left shoulder. Stanley Matthews, a 31-year-old laborer from Sophia, sustained a gunshot wound to the left hand and left thigh. Destra Auther, a 33-year-old street vendor from East La Penitence, sustained a gunshot wound to the left leg. Lenox Wayne, a 39-year-old security guard from Turkeyen, sustained injuries to the right thigh and hand. Havercome, a 40-year-old street vendor from South Ruimveldt, who was shot multiple times, succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
