Deadpool and Wolverine went through many different iterations before settling on a concept. At one point, it was actually going to be a road trip movie between Wade and Logan. After deciding that the multiverse would be a big part of the story, Marvel Studios concept artist Andy Park suggested a scene where Deadpool travels through various Earths in the multiverse and lands on the comic book version of the Marvel Universe, also known as Earth-616. He even designed a scene where Deadpool lands in the iconic shot of avengeronly with the heroes’ comic counterparts. Below you can check out Andy Parks’ concept art that he shared on Instagram:

So who were the artists who inspired this concept art by Andy Park? We discover a Rob Liefeld version of Deadpool (of course) and a Jack Kirby-inspired Captain America. The Hulk seems to be in the style of the long-standing Incredible Hulk Penciler Sal Buscema, with Thor giving off Walter Simonson vibes. Hawkeye looks like Al Milgrom’s take on Clint Barton from West Coast Avengersand Black Widow looks a bit like her portrayal by Jim Lee in an issue of Uncanny X-MenAnd Iron Man, in his white and red “Silver Centurion” armor, seems to be inspired by the art of Mark Bright.

Unfortunately, this scene never made it past the concept stage. It would have been a blast to see it on screen. We have a feeling Kevin Feige might have had an input here. After all, he is adamant that “the Sacred Timeline” of the MCU is Earth-616. Long-time comic book fans know that this is actually the name of the main universe of the monthly Marvel comics. This is where the term “Earth-616” originally came from. (Something that Ms. Marvel star and superfan Iman Vellani is incredibly persistent when it comes to constantly reminding Kevin Feige). Feige was probably wary of starting a fan discourse about which universe is really Earth-616. They just have to put this debate to rest until Avengers: Secret Wars gets everything going again.
