“Frozen 3” postponed to 2027, Disney also announces “Frozen 4”

Although we still have to wait a little while for the release of Frozen 3, we were able to get a first look at the highly anticipated sequel during the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23 with some initial concept art.

The first concept image for Frozen 3, done in a painterly style reminiscent of classic Disney films like Sleeping Beauty, shows Elsa on an ethereal ice horse running across a river while her sister Anna and Olaf run behind on a horse of their own. A terrifying horned shadow can be seen in the water clutching a spear, possibly hinting at the film’s villain.

The concept art was part of a brief preview of the upcoming animated film, whose release has now been pushed back to 2027 after originally being scheduled for 2026. Few other details are known about the anticipated sequel to Frozen 2, which recently surpassed Inside Out 2 as the highest-grossing animated film of all time.

“After ‘Frozen 2’ we still have some questions. Actually, a lot of questions. Now you see why we need two films to tell this story,” revealed producer Jennifer Lee.

Her comments seem to confirm the release of Frozen 4 after CEO Bob Iger hinted that there was “possibly” another film “in the works” alongside Frozen 3 in 2023.

As for Frozen 3, we know that Josh Gad will reprise his role as Olaf, while Idina Menzel will return as Elsa. Kristen Bell has not yet confirmed if she will voice Anna again.

In addition to Frozen 3, the Disney Entertainment Showcase also featured new looks at Moana 2, Zootopia 2, and Toy Story 5, as well as the first official announcement of Incredibles 3.
