Aldi issues urgent “do not consume” warning for popular item, police launch investigation

Aldi has issued a “Do not consume” warning about an item in its stores; the police are currently investigating.

The discount retailer recalled a batch of Village Bakery 8 Tortilla Wraps White over concerns they may have been tampered with. The recall was prompted by concerns that the product may contain metal. Customers were notified of the recall last month.

The recall affects products with a best-before date of April 29, 2024. Aldi is urging all buyers of the product not to consume it, but to return it to the store where it was purchased and receive a full refund, the Daily Star reports.

Aldi stores that sell these wraps have put up warning posters advising consumers not to eat them. The supermarket also stated that the recall is linked to an “ongoing police investigation.”

The company’s statement said: “All of our products undergo rigorous safety and quality controls. We are recalling this product as a precautionary measure. As police investigations are currently ongoing, we are unable to comment further on this matter at this time.”
