MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Memphis police have arrested and charged a suspect on suspicion of shooting a man, causing his car to crash and catch fire.

On August 5, officers responded to a 911 call regarding a shooting at the Extended Stay on American Way.

According to MPD, officers were informed by a witness that several shots had been fired in the area. Although he heard the shots, the witness was unsure if anyone was injured.

As officers guarded the crime scene, they discovered several bullet casings in the parking lot.

Officials said that while investigating the area, they were notified that the Memphis Fire Department had discovered a burning car in a wooded area near the American Way location.

Upon arrival, MPD learned that the burned body of a man had been found inside the vehicle, and that he was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.

Officers reviewed surveillance camera footage and observed a male suspect shooting at the victim’s car before it burned in a firestorm.

The suspect was later identified as 22-year-old Isiah Jones.

Jones was taken into police custody and is now charged with first-degree murder.
