American Airlines adds nonstop flight to Burning Man Reno-LAX

Nonstop flights between Reno-Tahoe International Airport and LAX will operate for 12 days.

American Airlines is introducing a nonstop flight between Reno and Los Angeles in anticipation of increased demand for Burning Man.

American Airlines’ seasonal flight between Reno-Tahoe International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport will be available from August 23 to September 3, according to the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority.

The airport authority has previously described Burning Man as a sort of Super Bowl meets Mardi Gras for the Reno airport due to the large crowds it draws. The event, which brings tens of thousands of travelers to the airport, played a large part in Reno-Tahoe International Airport recording a 15-year high in passenger numbers last year.

This year, however, demand for Burning Man has dropped, and as of Thursday morning, tickets are still available on the event’s ticket page. In the past, tickets have sold out within an hour or even minutes of going on sale.

Last year, Burning Man participants, including comedian Chris Rock and popular DJ Diplo, were stranded in the Black Rock Desert after a rainstorm turned the beach into a “mud mess.”

Burning Man is scheduled to take place from August 25 to September 2.
