John Cena is happy that his retirement from the WWE is a given: “If I lie to my audience, they will call me out on my nonsense.”

John Cena talks about the benefits of having a concrete timeframe for his WWE retirement.

John Cena will retire from WWE in 2025 and dedicate the entire calendar year to his WWE family. After 23 years on WWE television, Cena has made it clear that he will not take another setback or participate in any part of WWE performance other than as a loyal fan.

Bryan Danielson: Win or lose, AEW All In feels like the biggest match and moment of my career

Cena said on CBS Mornings that he is very happy to be retiring. He would like to have a set date for his retirement because he knows that if he tries to back out and wrestle again, the WWE Universe will call him out on his nonsense.

“I feel great. My last appearance in the WWE ring will be in December 2025, period, and I like to say that because if I lie to my audience, they’ll call me out on my bullshit.”

John Cena isn’t sure what’s next for him when he officially hangs up the jorts. He said he wants to take things day by day and, in typical fashion for the man who has long preached the values of drive, loyalty and respect, he simply wants the opportunity to earn each sunset.

“I’ll know what’s next when it comes, but I know that if I wake up every day and say, ‘How can I earn the sunset?’ I’ll do something useful and that will lead to something getting done.”

John Cena isn’t trying to personally pick opponents on this farewell tour, but that hasn’t stopped him from challenging. New WWE Intercontinental Champion Bron Breakker has stated that he wants John Cena to try and take the WWE Intercontinental Championship from him.

John Cena’s farewell tour includes an appearance on the first WWE Monday Night Raw on Netflix. Learn more about the tour’s guaranteed stops here.
