Green Bay Packers offensive star is on the transfer list, according to NFL analyst

The Green Bay Packers pulled off one of the biggest surprises of the NFL offseason by signing former rushing champion Josh Jacobs and letting veteran running back Aaron Jones leave as a free agent. The changes in the backfield could open the door for even more changes on offense around emerging franchise quarterback Jordan Love.

After the Cowboys invested a third-round pick in former USC running back Marshawn Lloyd, who has plenty of explosive energy, the end may be near for veteran running back AJ Dillon.

Could the Green Bay Packers trade AJ Dillon?

With the regular season approaching and injuries affecting more and more teams across the league, now may be the right time for franchises to hit the transfer market for experienced players.

NFL analyst Ryan Fowler of Bleacher Report has compiled the players every team in the league should have on their transfer list, including Dillon for the Pakers.

“Dillon signed a one-year deal to return to Green Bay in 2024,” Fowler points out for B/R. “Although the team could very well finish the year with him and part ways after the season with no contractual obligations, if the Packers scour the market for teams in need of an experienced ball carrier, they could snag a draft pick in return.

“Behind Dillon, young players like Jarveon Howard and Emmanuel Wilson are emerging who could take on a deep rotation role.”

Given that the Packers have invested a lot of draft capital in Lloyd and are apparently looking for a younger player for the position, it would make sense for Green Bay to part ways with the veteran if the right offer lands on GM Brian Gutekunst’s desk.

In his first four seasons, Dillon has rushed for 2,428 yards and scored 16 touchdowns, averaging 4.1 yards per run.

Dillon would likely be of value to teams looking for a complementary running back or in need of an experienced veteran due to an injury at the position.
