Our next magazine offers a new opportunity for photo submissions

Time flies when you’re having fun, and even though it seems like just yesterday we were working on the July/August issue of Vicksburg Living Magazine, we’re already setting the wheels in motion for the next one.

We have some great stories planned for the September/October issue and, as always, I invite readers to send us photos for the Submissions section of the magazine.

That’s one of my favorite aspects of the magazine. You never know what someone is going to send in, like in our last issue. Lindsey Gilliland sent me what I think is one of the coolest vacation photos ever. I wondered how many shots she had to take to get her sons’ picture on the cover of the magazine. Kudos to her for this creative endeavor.

Last year, for the September/October issue of the magazine, I ran a little contest. I asked people to send in photos from their tailgate parties. And whichever school had the most participation was declared the winner and their school colors were used in the design.

Had I known that Ole Miss would outshine it, I might have reconsidered the idea—yes, according to en.wiktionary.org, that’s a word. Its definition means a humorous, nonstandard past participle of “to reconsider.”

So for this year’s September/October issue of the magazine, I decided to forgo the request for tailgate photos and instead invite everyone to send in their favorite Halloween picture.

Those of you who know me know that I love decorating for Halloween, second only to my Christmas madness.

I think my love of Halloween was instilled in me as a little girl. I loved playing dress-up, especially at Mary Helen’s house. She was my grandmother and she never said no to anything, even when I would get old clothes and shoes out of her closet and wear them to her house and act like I was all grown up. And of course there was the lipstick. You just can’t do without ruby red lips.

Halloween was also fun when my kids were little. We would have neighborhood parties before going trick-or-treating. Helping them design a creative costume always brought back fond memories of the times I went candy hunting myself.

It sounds crazy to talk about Halloween when it’s hot as hell outside, but that’s just how the magazine works. You have to think ahead to get a publication out on time.

So don’t delay. The deadline is August 17, which means you have a little over a week to send them to [email protected]. Please list everyone who is in the picture, and feel free to send an old but good picture. I plan to go through my photos to see if I can dig up one of me from when I was a little girl. I know it’s somewhere in one of my many photo booths. Happy haunting!
