Crisp & Green restaurant with healthy food opens in Evansville

EVANSVILLE – You may have noticed that a new franchise has come to town at the Promenade Shopping Center on Burkhardt Road. The name is Crisp & Greenand the menu offers plenty of light, healthy and nutritious options – exactly the kind of food that health-conscious eaters often complain isn’t easy to find in restaurants.

The franchise is owned locally by Tyson and Wendy Martin, who are also owners Orangetheory Fitness Center.

The couple believes that a healthy lifestyle is of the utmost importance, so they wanted to open a restaurant in Evansville that focuses entirely on healthy eating and offers food for all tastes, including meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans, as well as people on low-carb, gluten-free or other diets. Nutritional information is provided for each dish.

Crisp and Green offers salads, grain bowls, wraps, smoothies and acai bowls. The choice of ingredients is large and the fast-casual format allows you to put together your own dish or customize it.

Grain shells

Grain bowls are an incredibly healthy way to eat all your favorite foods. Start with two basics: cooked quinoa or brown rice and some greens. Spinach, kale, and fresh arugula are all good choices, along with the more common lettuce varieties.

Then come the toppings. Crisp & Green offers a plethora of colorful options and not all of them are raw. Choose four from fruits, herbs, vegetables and avocado, pickled vegetables, pita chips, corn chips and more. If you want more than four, you can add more for $0.50.

Then feel free to add a quality topping like marinated tofu, meat, hummus, nuts or seeds, cheese, or roasted vegetables like roasted potatoes, tomatoes, corn and poblano chiles, mushrooms, broccoli and cauliflower. Meats include fried, blackened or grilled chicken, citrus garlic shrimp, bacon and salami. Prices range from $0.85 to $4.25 each.

Finally, drizzle with one of 17 homemade sauces or dressings, from classic Caesar to Korean chili cashew.

If you fancy a salad or wrap, these are made with the same ingredients. Wraps are made with low-carb tortillas.

If you don’t feel like getting creative, the menu offers plenty of the brand’s specialties to choose from, like the Fiesta Bowl with brown rice, roasted chicken, Chinese cabbage, jalapeños, queso fresco, avocado, black beans, roasted peppers and onions, lime juice, pumpkin seeds, roasted tomatillo salsa, and jalapeño-lime vinaigrette; or the Chicken Bacon Ranch Salad with mixed greens, romaine lettuce, steamed chicken, pickled onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, avocado, bacon, and house-made ranch dressing.

If you’re craving fruit, treat yourself to a smoothie or acai bowl with fresh fruit, granola, cashew butter, and fun toppings like cacao nibs, protein puffs, vegan marshmallows, and pumpkin seeds.

There is a kids menu and if you’re feeling great after such a healthy diet, treat yourself to a chocolate walnut cookie or crunchy treat.
