John Michael Johnson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away on August 13, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion and service. He was born on August 12, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ray Arnold and Verna Catherine (Cole) Johnson.

John’s life was marked by a deep connection to his family and a passion for helping others. He proudly served and retired as a Master Sergeant in the Air National Guard, demonstrating his unwavering devotion to his country. Throughout his career, John worked as a systems analyst in computer programming, demonstrating his intelligence and expertise in the field.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, John will be remembered for his boundless love for his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years, Molly Kathryn Johnson of Bryant, Arkansas. His children: Neil Johnson and wife Kim of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Kim Avery of Little Rock, Arkansas, Michael Johnson and wife Stacey of Twin Falls, Idaho, Lorraine Southworth and her husband David of Queen Creek, Arizona, Aaron Johnson of Benton, Arkansas, Rebekah Longeway of Bryant, Arkansas, and Gwyn Jent and her husband Beau of Mesa, Arizona, were the recipients of his unwavering support and encouragement.

John’s presence will be sorely missed by his many grandchildren – Rebecca, Nicole, Scott, Danielle, Heath, Devin, Wesley, John, Stephanie, Kathryn, Austin, Claire, Kristen, Samuel, Eva, Reed, Riley, Jacob and Joshua – and his great-grandchildren – Maelyn, Lily, Patrick, McKemy, Sawyer, Jane, Wren and Scarlett – all of whom brought him great joy and pride.

In addition to his immediate family, John leaves behind his brother Allen Johnson and his wife Cathy of Salt Lake City, Utah, and a large circle of relatives and friends who were touched by his kindness and warmth. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray Arnold and Verna Catherine Johnson, his siblings Walter, Claire, Arnold “Bill” and Katherine, and his son-in-law Mark Avery.

John’s charismatic personality and enthusiasm for life extended beyond his family. He was a dedicated Scout leader, mentor and advocate, leaving a lasting impression on the community and the young men he mentored. In his free time, John indulged in his hobbies, which included crafts, long walks, golfing and collecting miniature models of Air Force aircraft. His appreciation for the outdoors and sports enriched his life and gave him comfort.

A memorial service to honor John’s life will be held on September 3, 2024, at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery in North Little Rock. The memorial service will begin at 10:00 a.m.

John Michael Johnson will forever be remembered for his unwavering love, generosity and devotion to his family and community. His presence will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in eternal peace.
