Grant Holloway, Julien Alfred: Far too early tips for the 2028 Olympic Games in LA

All ten days of athletics in Paris featured some of the best performances in Olympic and world history.

We were so excited that we have already started thinking about possible scenarios that we might see in four years.

Check out five way too early predictions for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Can Julien Alfred or Sha’Carri Richardson break Flo-Jo’s 100-meter record?

With a time of just 10.72 seconds, Julien Alfred wrote her name in the history of St. Lucia and gave the country of 180,000 inhabitants its first ever Olympic medal: gold in the 100 meters.

Alfred defeated US champion Sha’Carri Richardson in the final with 10.72 to 10.87, won her first world championship title and set the eighth fastest time in world history.

After her gold medal, the University of Texas graduate also won silver in the 200-meter race, giving the Caribbean island its second Olympic medal.

Richardson was able to add gold to her tally in the 4 x 100 m after coming back and keying the Americans to the gold.

If we look at Los Angeles, Alfred will be 27 years old while Richardson will be 28; both are at the peak of their careers.

If Florence Griffith-Joyner’s world record of 10.49 has not been broken by the time the two potentially meet in the final, it would not be a surprise if history was made.

How fast will Grant Holloway be at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles?

When athletics kick off in Los Angeles, the 2024 110m gold medalist will be 30 years old, but even though he’s in his thirties, he’ll still be Grant Holloway.

After avenging his silver medal from Tokyo, Holloway is now the three-time defending champion and has won four of the last five world titles.

Before he hits the track in Los Angeles, Holloway could still achieve several successes, including two world titles in Tokyo and Beijing and possibly a world and American record.

Even in four years, Holloway will be the top player in Los Angeles

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone could compete in any discipline, possibly switching from hurdles

At this point, it is impossible to predict which discipline combination McLaughlin-Levrone might take on.

First of all, there have been rumors that the two-time Olympic champion might turn her attention to the 400m or even the 200m. Regardless of the specific discipline, the signs point to McLaughlin-Levrone being the favorite in all events.

The world record holder has said she believes a sub-50-second time in the 400-meter hurdles is possible and the majority of the public believes she could break barriers in the same way in the open 400-meter race.

Is there a possibility that it will drop all the way to 100 m?

We’ll have to wait and see, but it’s a must.

Cole Hocker has the range needed to win the 1500 m and 5000 m in Los Angeles

Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen has proven that it is possible to run 1500m and then run 5000m again. Cole Hocker, who just won Olympic gold in the 1500m, seems capable enough to manage a feat of this magnitude.

It’s clear that Hocker is fast, but he also has the ability to run 5,000m fast. Earlier this year he ran 12:58.82.

Hocker will face strong competition in both events, but he is a contender for double gold on American soil.

Will Parker Valby become the face of US women’s long-distance running?

Parker Valby is coming off the best race of her college history. In her senior year alone, she won five national titles and 14 of 15 races. At the 2024 US Olympic Qualifiers, the 21-year-old finished 4th and 2nd in the 5,000m and 10,000m, and had the opportunity to compete in both events in Paris, but opted for the 10k instead.

With personal bests of 14:51.44 and 30:50.43 in the 5K and 10K, the sky’s the limit and this could well be America’s best chance at a medal in four years.

She will be 25, have years of championship experience on her side in Los Angeles and will be a medal contender in both competitions.
