A Century of Service: Marion VA Honors Veteran Neil McCormick on 100th Birthday | VA Marion Health Care

The 100-year-old veteran, affectionately known in the small town as “Mayor McCormick,” was surrounded by family, friends and VA members to honor his extraordinary life.

In a heartwarming celebration, the community of Olive Branch, Illinois, came together on July 27 to honor the remarkable milestone of centenarian Neil McCormick. Affectionately known in the small town as “Mayor McCormick,” the 100-year-old veteran was surrounded by family, friends and members of the VA to honor his extraordinary life.

Mr. McCormick, who served in the U.S. Army for three years during World War II, was accompanied by his beloved wife for this special occasion. It was the community’s true pleasure and honor to present him with a framed letter and coin from Dennis McDonough, Secretary of Veterans Affairs, in recognition of his dedicated service and lifetime achievements.

As part of the celebration, Mr. McCormick was also gifted a beautiful quilt from Hands and Hearts for Heroes, a heartfelt gesture in honor of his century of service and sacrifice.

The Olive Branch community stands in awe of Mr. McCormick’s remarkable life and unwavering commitment to his country. This centennial celebration is a testament to the steadfast spirit of our nation’s veterans and a reminder of the profound impact they have had on our lives.
