A DIY enthusiast has unveiled a seven-color room that can make any home feel like it was designed by a professional.
And when interior design consultant Claire shares this trick with others, people are often “completely speechless.”

On her TikTok page @thatcotswoldclaire, she shared her clever tips, which have now been liked by over 30,000 people.
Claire captioned the video: “The decorating hack to create the home of a pro!”
“Choose colors for your walls and accessories and get the dream home you’ve always dreamed of.”
She says: “Every time I tell this story, it blows people away.”
Claire began by explaining that this trick can create a home that feels like it was designed by an interior designer.
She says: “It’s very simple: decide on your color choices. You bring between five and seven colors into your home and use only those colors.”
Claire explained that all homeowners need to do is make sure to get their hands on paint color charts, which they can get for free at their local decorating store.
She says: “These are created by experts. There is a lot of science behind how they group the colours in them.
“But you don’t need to know that, because they’ve done the hard work for you.
“All colors that run horizontally should be fixed.”
Claire then turns over the color card and explains in more detail how it works.
She points to a range of colours and says that the horizontal colours are best as they are similar “tones and shades”.
She points out that they are the same undertones, but with either more white or more black added.

Claire advises: “Don’t be afraid to choose a bold colour because it will also go with the lighter colours.”
She’s always amazed that people don’t know this decorating trick, but it’s “such an easy way” to make your house look like it was painted by a professional.
Claire continues: “It’s also important to remember, and this is where people often slip up.
“The fact is that you don’t have to represent these colors completely in the paintwork.

“This means you might use one colour for your walls and then carry all the other colours through all of your soft furnishings and accessories in your room.
“Although you choose your five colors from a color chart, you are not implementing those five color selections because you are not using real paint.
“Think about using maybe two or three colors, maybe have something for your walls, something for your ceiling and something for your woodwork.
“Then the other colours would be introduced in different ways – (e.g.) in carpets, curtains, sofas, even in accessories like candles.”

The viral TikTok video attracted a lot of attention and many stormed the comments section to share their thoughts.
One wrote: “Oh my god… where have you been all my life?! I’m thinking about decorating my whole house and this is a godsend.”
Another added: “Wow, who would have thought… not me. Thanks for the heads up.”
Someone else said: “I don’t think that’s true. According to my research, it’s best to mix elements that are opposite each other on the color wheel – green and Pink for example.”
Claire then explained: “Yes, this is called a complementary colour scheme… choosing opposite colours creates a strong impact and contrast and is another option that I shared a video of further down on my feed.”
Claire is a huge fan of interior design and currently has a big DIY project in the works.
She says: “In addition to TikTok, I also document my own eco-DIY on Instagram.
“I am managing the project together with my husband and am also taking care of the entire interior design.
“Move-in is planned for the end of September, after four long years of construction.”
