MJF named John Cena his childhood hero.

The AEW American Champion was recently interviewed by Jack the Jobber of Cultaholic during his trip to the UK where he faced RevPro’s Michael Oku. They talked about things like the reported Britt Baker incident and more.

During the conversation, Jake mentioned that MJF named Roddy Piper and CM Punk as people he was a fan of growing up. When asked who else he looked up to before becoming a wrestler himself, Salt of The Earth named the leader of The Cenation. However, only during his time as the Doctor of Thuganomics:

“John Cena was a big head on my wall when he was rapping. Then he stopped rapping and started being very nice and I didn’t like that.”

John Cena and MJF: Talents of a generation

When Jake brought up Cena burying fellow WWE star Wade Barrett under a stack of steel chairs during their 2010 TLC match, MJF defended the 16-time World Champion, mentioning how the former Nexus leader constantly attacked him:

“Okay, I’m not the type to defend my, especially good friend John. I don’t know if you’ve seen it, but he praises me all the time in interviews, as he should. I’m a generational talent. Generational talent knows generational talent when they see one.

I think we can all agree that your people are rude, gruff, loud, obnoxious and very arrogant. Wade was constantly attacking him with multiple people, which is what your people do too. They never try to fight one on one. Their friends always jump in when they’re drunk. So I feel like John was just defending himself and his country in that moment.”

MJF is currently scheduled to defend his AEW American Championship against Will Ospreay on August 25 at the All In Event 2024 at Wembley Stadium.
