Before Tesla began delivering the Cybertruck in November 2023, it priced the base model at just $39,000.
But when the first vehicles were delivered to customers, Tesla confirmed a new price for this version: $60,990.
Over the weekend, however, the automaker stopped taking orders for the base model of its futuristic pickup truck. That means the cheapest model available, the mid-range Cybertruck with dual-motor, all-wheel drive and an estimated range of 318 miles, now costs $99,990, an increase of $20,000.
As part of another price adjustment, the price of the top-of-the-line Cyberbeast three-engine model with a range of 301 miles was also increased by $20,000, from $99,990 to $119,990.
The better news for customers is that anyone who orders the mid-range Cybertruck now can expect to receive it later this month. The top-of-the-line three-motor Cyberbeast, meanwhile, will be available starting in October. Anyone who previously ordered the $60,990 base model can expect to receive it sometime next year.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk said last fall that the automaker had received one million orders for the Cybertruck.
Tesla’s Cybertruck has struggled with several issues since it began delivering to customers late last year. These included a problem with the windshield wiper motor that sometimes caused the large single wiper to fail – certainly not the kind of mishap you want to experience while driving in heavy rain. There was also an issue with the vehicle’s accelerator pedal cover, which could come loose and cause the pedal to stick, resulting in unwanted and potentially dangerous acceleration. Additionally, a piece of plastic trim along the edge of the truck’s bed was found to be in danger of coming loose and flying away, posing a hazard to following motorists.
All problems have now been resolved through recalls.
