Tango Gameworks was acquired by PUBG publisher Krafton along with the rights to Hi-Fi RUSH

Three months after the studio was shut down by then-owner Microsoft, Hi-Fi Rush and The Evil Within developer Tango Gameworks appears to have been revived thanks to an acquisition by Korean company Krafton Inc., publisher of games such as PUBG: Battlegrounds and The Callisto Protocol.

In a press release, Krafton explains that they “intend to work with Xbox and ZeniMax to ensure a smooth transition and maintain continuity at Tango Gameworks so that the talented team can continue the development of the Hi-Fi RUSH IP and explore future projects” and that the studio’s existing catalog, which includes Hi-Fi RUSH, The Evil Within 1 and 2, and Ghostwire: Tokyo, will remain unaffected and widely available as it is now.

The press release specifically mentions Hi-Fi RUSH as the “original Hi-Fi RUSH” and hints that it will be further developed as an intellectual property, so it definitely seems like the company is interested in expanding the 2023 rhythm-action smash into more games and likely more cross-media projects as well.

Hi-Fi RUSH was last released on PS5 and a physical edition is still to be available through Limited Run Games. There have been many rumors of a Switch port and evidence of it has been found through datamining and age ratings, but so far nothing has come of it.

In a statement shared by Windows Central, a Microsoft spokesperson said, “We are working with Krafton to enable the team at Tango Gameworks to continue to develop games together, and we look forward to playing their next great game. The existing catalog of Tango games will not be impacted.”

We will continue to update this story with more information.
