CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Last season, the Clarksville High Wildcats went undefeated for the first time since 1945, but fell in the first round of the playoffs with a heartbreaking one-point loss to Collierville. Now, the newly formed team looks to repeat last year’s regular season and advance further into the postseason.

The 2023 Wildcats were dominant, scoring 492 points and allowing just 74. They trailed by less than a minute all season, but unfortunately they fell behind in the final seconds of their playoff game against Collierville, which they lost 23-22.

Head coach Isaac Shelby and his staff are developing a strategy to avoid a first-round loss this year.

“We’re always worried about Week 11,” Shelby said. “We had the game winning until the end, so we took another look at some things during the offseason. We work on things all year long to give our guys the best chance against these Memphis teams.”

If you’ve followed football in this town, you know exactly what to expect from Shelby’s Wildcats: a physical, option-based attack that runs the ball and then passes it when everyone is in the box. The offense is led by running back James Dalrymple and reigning Region 7-6A Player of the Year Ahmoyre Galbreath.

“People should expect a well-coached team that is tough and plays at a high level,” Shelby said. “We used a lot of second- and third-year players at the skill positions last year, and with more experience we should be able to open some things up.”

Shelby said his team understands the expectations for this year.

“We need to get to the playoffs and make a splash,” Shelby said. “Every team wants to be better than the team before them, that’s always a big deal for these kids. We’re ready to make our school and our community proud.”
