The Bookseller – Rights – Trapeze acquires rights to BAFTA winner Adam Kay’s debut novel

Trapeze, an imprint of Orion Books, has acquired the rights to two new books by BAFTA award-winning author Adam Kay.

The first of the two books, A particularly bad case – Kay’s debut novel – published in hardcover, paperback, eBook and audiobook on September 11, 2025. Anna Valentine, Managing Director of Orion Publishing Group, acquired worldwide rights for all languages.

The synopsis states: “In A Particularly bad casewWhen a dangerous hospital doctor dies of a heart attack, his colleague Eitan Rose suspects a crime. But no one else does, not even important players like the police and the coroner. Eitan’s colleagues are already treating him with suspicion after his recent Collapse and Are skeptical his increasingly wild theories. When another doctor dies under similar circumstances, Eitan becomes convinced that there is more to these deaths than meets the eye.”

Kay is a BAFTA winner writer and author of the multi-million-copy global bestseller This will hurt.

Valentine’s Day said: “Adam has sold over five million copies of his books in all formats. Kay has proven himself to be one of our nation’s greatest storytellers, and I am excited that he is turning to fiction. A particularly bad case has all the characteristics that make Adams writing unique and loved by so many readers: Scalpel-sharp wit, tense Plotting and unforgettable characters.”

Kay said:Because the ridiculously woke society we live in means that I tilt run around and murder people who annoy me, I have had to do the next best thing and start writing crime novels. I should probably point out that It is not a comfortable crime – in fact It is probably the Opposite of comfortable. Itchy crime? I really hope that people enjoy reading this book as much as I have I enjoyed writing it, and for the avoidance of doubt, it was a lot of fun.”
