Bob Ross gets his own LEGO Ideas kit with a foldable miniature art gallery

Designed by LEGO builder Bricknificent, the Bob Ross: Studio & Paintings set perfectly immortalizes painter and art teacher Bob Ross, known for his calming, almost meditative painting videos. The fan-made LEGO set includes Ross himself as a minifigure in his own recording studio, attached to an art gallery. The gallery, which opens and closes, contains 6 of Bob Ross’ most prolific artworks, all made from a total of 1,234 LEGO bricks.

Designer: Bricknificent

“For me, as a nature lover who loves to draw and paint, Bob Ross is a true inspiration. I admire his passion, his soothing voice and his limited choice of tools and paints. With that in mind, I created the ultimate Bob Ross experience in LEGO,” says Bricknificent, the creator of the LEGO Ideas Bob Ross kit. The kit is more than just Ross’ studio or his paintings. Rather, it is practically a kind of diorama that captures the television setup Ross used to film his painting sequences for his show “The Joy of Painting” along with his great works.

The studio set is foldable and can either be fanned out to display the entire collection at once or folded up to form an enclosed heart-shaped gallery. On top of the heart, where the top curves intersect, is Bob’s studio, complete with studio lights, a camera and a director filming Bob as he paints. There’s a black curtain in the background and art supplies in the corner, capturing the smallest details of the entire shooting setup…even Peapod, a squirrel who appears in his episodes.

As you walk away from the setup, you’ll be greeted with 6 of Bob’s most prolific works – Mountain Retreat, Misty Waterfall, Winter Night, Campfire, Sunset and Winter Solitude. Ross is known for his unconventional approach to painting, breaking down the process into simple, easy-to-follow lifehacks. He’s helped millions of people pick up a paintbrush and create real, near-realistic landscape art. The LEGO Ideas set features six such landscapes on different terrains.

Six of Ross’s most famous paintings use unconventional bricks from existing LEGO sets, such as ice cream scoops as waterfalls and baby bottles as tubes of paint.

The entire set is made up of 1,234 bricks, which is pretty much on the low end of the LEGO difficulty spectrum. Unfortunately, the set is just a fan creation for now… but with nearly 2,500 votes at the time of writing, it’s getting tremendous support on the LEGO Ideas website, where fans can vote for their favorite fan creations, or MOCs (My Own Creation). If Bricknificent’s MOC hits the 10,000 mark, there’s a chance LEGO will make it a retail box set, so be sure to cast your vote for this beautiful set on the LEGO Ideas website!
