Katharine McPhee celebrates her 40th birthday in a tiny blue bikini: “Magical week”

“I guess turning 29 isn’t so bad,” the musician joked about her latest milestone

Katharine McPhee toasts another milestone birthday – in a bikini!

The singer-songwriter and actress celebrated her 40th birthday on Instagram on Wednesday with a series of photos from a short vacation with her loved ones, dressed up for the occasion.

In the post, McPhee included a photo of herself wearing a light blue two-piece bikini and a sun hat while hanging out on a boat with friends, as well as another shot of her in a swimsuit while posing with boyfriend Matt Walker.

“It’s been such a magical week! Thank you all for the love on our birthday. Guess turning 29 isn’t so bad 🤣🫶🏻✨,” McPhee joked in the caption of her post.

The American Idol The former student also shared photos of her friends exploring a bay, a video of her husband David Foster enjoying a “piña colada with alcohol,” and a group photo of the entire crew posing on a large rock.

She also showed off a yellow and white knit top while she and her friends recreated a popular TikTok soundtrack from Jennifer Lawrence’s film “2023.” No hard feelings.

“I just turned 29,” McPhee mouthed in the clip. “Last year.”

When her friends asked her to clarify, McPhee reiterated that she turned 29 “last year” and is now “another year older.” Even though McPhee just turned 40 in real life, she’s still getting a ton of birthday love in her comments section.

“Happy birthday beautiful ❤,” wrote Leann Rimes, and Julianne Hough wrote, “What girls ❤.”

“Love this photo dump! – So you turned 29 and David is in his drinking and boozing era 🍹😂 … What a couple! 🙃🤍,” commented one fan.

Earlier this month, Foster described his and McPhee’s relationship to PEOPLE, calling marriage “a moving target.” The couple married in 2019.

“If you’re a parent yourself, you know exactly,” said the 74-year-old musician, adding that there are “no hard and fast rules” in their relationship.

The father of six also described what it was like for her raising her son Rennie, 3. He explained that “parents can sometimes agree to disagree and then agree on most things and have a different philosophy on other things,” adding that sometimes it “sorts itself out.”

Their agreements and disagreements, he said, are “all in the best interests of the child. That’s what we’re both working toward.”

As for whether Rennie will emulate mom and dad, Foster found it “pretty amazing” that his son joined him on stage drumming along to music in Washington, D.C., last month. “He’s been studying our drummer, JR Robinson, who is incredible, for the last year and a half and he’s figured it out on his own,” Foster said.

“I’m not a drummer. I can’t play drums. He just somehow figured it out,” Foster added, before sharing that “every parent’s child is special.”
