Eddie Vedder has released a cover of Tom Petty’s song “Room at the Top”.
Originally released on Petty’s 1999 album echo“Room at the Top” has been featured in Vedder’s solo shows for some time. In 2018, he even played it during the “In Memoriam” tribute to Petty at the Academy Awards. Now his studio version is being released as part of the soundtrack for the upcoming Apple TV+ show. Evil MonkeyPremiere expected on August 14th.

Vedder’s take on “Room at the Top” begins with a ballad arrangement, carried by simple electric guitar strumming, and develops into a full-fledged rock anthem that also features a climactic organ solo. As for Vedder’s vocals, he displays his trademark power, but also masterfully delivers the emotional sensitivity the song requires.
Vedder recorded the cover with assistance from Andrew Watt, Chad Smith, Benmont Tench, Glen Hansard, Chis Chaney and Josh Klinghoffer. Stream it below.
Evil Monkey is the latest series from Bill Lawrence, in which Vince Vaughn plays a former detective turned food inspector who becomes entangled in a web of crime and corruption in Florida. In addition to Vaughn, the series also stars Michelle Monaghan, Jodie Turner-Smith, Meredith Hagner, John Ortiz, Alex Moffat and other cast members.
The complete tracklist for Evil Monkey The soundtrack is currently unknown, but the artwork states that it celebrates the music of Tom Petty. The other release, which came out this week, is a cover of “Runnin’ Down a Dream” by Larkin Poe.
Vedder’s version of “Room at the Top” is the latest in a string of covers. Over the past year, he has covered songs by The English Beat, Warren Zevon, Nine Inch Nails and others. In February, he even covered another Petty song, “I Won’t Back Down,” collaborating with Post Malone at a tribute concert for Leslie Jordan.
