A guest actress on Antiques Roadshow was left speechless when she heard the value of her grandmother’s wedding present. Fiona Bruce was back tonight as presenter of the popular BBC show.

Sunday’s episode took place as part of a roadshow at Lytham Hall, where people brought their items to be valued by a range of experts. Alastair Dickenson was delighted with a set of teaspoons, sieves, tongs and tins brought by a guest on Sunday’s episode.

The guests explained that the incredible tea set had been given to their late grandmother and had been sitting there for years. She said: “We believe it was given to my grandmother as a wedding present by her best friend, who I believe was Norwegian. She married a Pole and became a countess of all things.”

The expert agreed that this theory could be true, saying, “They are Norwegian. They were made by David Anderson. He founded his company in Oslo in 1876.”

Alastair said the set was an example of plique-à-jour enamel, adding: “Each of these little areas is filled with transparent enamel. It takes many hours. These works are terribly delicate.”

“This is the best tea strainer I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s made of silver, then plated with gold and then all this enamel, it takes forever.

Alastair was delighted with the items and said, “I think you made my day by showing me these because this is the best tea strainer and one of the best tea caddies I have ever seen.”
