Photo Challenge #412 | 06880

After almost 8 years, I still find it difficult to estimate how difficult or easy the Sunday Photo Challenge will be.

Some weeks, a dozen or more readers come across an obscure place or a strange image.

Other times they miss, and I’m sure it would be a softball pitch.

Last week was one of those cases where an inordinate number of you made a mistake.

You may not have known what the black thing was in Amy Schneider’s photo. (A do-it-yourself bike repair station. Click here to see it.)

But the background – with part of the Gillespie Center in the corner – certainly gave it away.

That is not the case.

Only Lynn Untermeyer Miller, Jerry Kuyper, Andrew Colabella and Jonathan McClure recognized the location as Jesup Green from the Westport Library.

The incorrect guesses included Compo Beach, Old Mill Beach, Longshore, Town Hall and Winslow Park.

There are similar bike repair stations at these locations. (However, the Dero map, which Susan Eastman helpfully linked to, only shows the library and the town hall.)

Andrew Colabella notes that there are four locations in the city – gifts from an anonymous resident. Matt Murray added that he has never seen any of them used.

Now you know.

But do you know this week’s photo challenge?

I have no idea.
