Hunt: Showdown will have company in the extraction shooter genre next year, as developer Good Fun Corporation has announced its own horror extraction shooter and “slasher,” the PvPvE FPS HUNGERThe shooter, which also combines RPG elements, will be released in Early Access for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

HUNGER is set in Napoleonic Europe after the bacterial plague. As a survivor among the living, you embark on a solitary journey or join forces with allies in a team of two or three, traversing the dangerous landscape plagued by monstrous creatures born from the wrath of the plague known as the Famine.

Your survival and prosperity in this world are closely tied to the Chateau’s inhabitants – a wide range of quest givers, shopkeepers, supply keepers, bounty hunters and other creatures. Completing quests and building your reputation will give you access to new locations, skills, characters, weapons, equipment and resources. You will have a variety of weapons at your disposal, including firearms, throwing weapons, as well as melee weapons including axes, swords and maces. Building on a mix of “methodical and frenetic ranged and close combat”, you will also equip armor and shields, bags, jewelry, medicine and more to aid you in battle.

As mentioned, HUNGER will use RPG elements, including a range of unlockable, unique passive, tactical, and ultimate abilities, as well as “deep and extremely customizable” mastery trees with more than 100 talents. You can build your character to utilize stealth mechanics, or specialize in ranged combat by speeding up your reload speed and improving your weapon control. Or if you choose a support role, you can forego deadly tactics and focus on supportive repair healing skills.

Good Fun Corporation expects HUNGER to be available in Early Access for two years “while we work to bring the title to a fully functional state.”
