A North Augusta man is in the custody of Aiken Public Safety following a violent incident last week.

The incident occurred Thursday morning at the Econo Lodge on Richland Avenue, according to copies of the incident report and arrest warrant filed Friday. Two women were found in one of the rooms allegedly being held at gunpoint by Joseph Satterwhite, one of whom was his ex.

The victims claimed that Satterwhite grabbed one of them by the shirt outside and pushed her back into the room. They sat on the bed, and Satterwhite pulled out a gun, pointed it at them, and threatened to kill them if they tried to leave the room. Satterwhite also allegedly got the victims to tell the motel clerk that they did not need help when he called their room.

Nevertheless, Aiken Public Safety was notified and officers responded to the scene at approximately 9:46 a.m. They went into the room and found Satterwhite with guns drawn. He complied with all instructions. Officers said Satterwhite admitted to having a gun on him and they found a 9mm Smith & Wesson M&P. The serial number was missing. He denied pointing the gun at the victims or threatening them.

He was charged with “aggravated domestic violence,” possession of a weapon during a violent crime, possession of a handgun with an obscured serial number, first-degree burglary and kidnapping.
