Plans to revitalize downtown Westfield continue • Latest release

The Westfield Redevelopment Commission approved a resolution in July to award up to $6.5 million in land acquisition grants to the Downtown Westfield Community Development Corp., continuing efforts to develop and revitalize downtown.

Established in 2024, the DWCDC is a nonprofit organization that supports strategic projects that promote the development of downtown Westfield. Funds enable the DWCDC to negotiate and purchase land for development.

“The City of Westfield is working with a developer to consolidate properties along Jersey Street (and one property) along Mill Street,” said Jenell Fairman, economic development director.

The Commission has already identified properties in the northwest quadrant of Jersey and Mill Streets as a redevelopment area. The funds will be used for Efforts to build, rehabilitate and repair commercial properties within the district.

In June, Fairman told Westfield City Council that plans were underway for a mixed-use development on Jersey Street – currently in the concept phase – including a 525-space parking garage, 35,000 square feet of commercial and office space, 46,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, 172 single-family homes and a pedestrian plaza.
