The Georgia Bulldogs running back room could be something special in 2024

The Georgia Bulldogs have always been known for their running back talent, but the 2024 season could be something special.

Since the days when Herschel Walker once roamed the streets of Athens, the Georgia Bulldogs have been known for their elite running backs. Year after year, the Dawgs have two, sometimes three running backs who stand out as the best in the nation.

And while the last few seasons have been no exception to that rule, the Dawgs’ running back room in 2024 could be one of the largest in Bulldogs history.

The main reason for the tremendous depth is the signing of running back Trevor Etienne, who joined the Bulldogs through the transfer portal prior to the 2024 season. Etienne’s performance in the Bulldogs’ spring game generated great anticipation for the upcoming season, and numerous reports from the team’s fall training camp suggest that 2024 could be the running back’s most productive year of his career.

In addition to Etienne, running back Roderick Robinson also returns to the Bulldogs. As a freshman in 2023, Robinson averaged 8.2 yards per carry and was a pleasant surprise for Georgia’s running back room, which was extremely thin at the time.

The third and arguably most exciting reason for Georgia’s deficit at the ball carrier position is the early return of Branson Robinson. Robinson showed numerous brilliant performances as a freshman in the 2022 season and was even nicknamed “Baby Chubb” by Bulldogs fans (much to the dismay of Kirby Smart).

Unfortunately, Robinson had to sit out the entire 2023 season and part of the 2024 offseason due to a knee injury. However, the running back appears to be fully healthy again and is expected to play a major role in Georgia’s running back cabinet in 2024.

The final reason for the tremendous depth at the running back position is freshman Nate Frazier. Freshmen often don’t play on Kirby Smart’s teams unless there are two reasons: necessity or the player is just that damn good. Nate Frazier appears to be the latter. The freshman has impressed coaches and teammates alike with his athleticism and is expected to get some extremely meaningful touches this season.

The Georgia Bulldogs and elite running backs are somewhat synonymous in the college football world, and as the 2024 season approaches, this year’s class of ball carriers suggests that won’t be changing anytime soon.
