Patrick Mahomes is a creature of habit when it comes to what he eats before his NFL games, according to his wife. Brittany Mahomes.
“Yeah, he eats certain things. Like on game day, it’s a grilled chicken sandwich with fries and ketchup,” Brittany, 28, said on the Wednesday, Aug. 28 episode of the “WHOOP” podcast. “I mean, in the past (years), it’s been something like a cheeseburger, but he’s come a long way.”
Patrick’s pre-game meal only changes when he’s on the road. “The night before games, he’s usually not home, so he’s at a hotel or an away hotel. And that’s why he gets served dinner,” Brittany explained. “But when he’s home on game day, he gets a grilled chicken sandwich with fries every day.”
Brittany clarified that her husband, whom she married in 2022, has made great strides in his diet. “When I cooked for him, I would trick him into eating certain things that he never knew about,” she said. “I would give him mashed cauliflower and tell him it was potatoes, or I would make spaghetti and it was vegetable noodles and he had no idea. So I tricked him.”
Her family has since hired a chef who uses a similar tactic. “He tries to trick him in different ways,” Brittany added. “But Patrick’s diet and eating habits have definitely gotten a lot better over the years.”
Patrick, 28, has several chicken sandwiches in front of him as the Kansas City Chiefs prepare for the 2024-2025 NFL season. The Chiefs will face the Baltimore Ravens in their first home game at Arrowhead Stadium on Sept. 5.
Like Patrick, Brittany’s relationship with food has changed over the years. “When I was in college and stuff, I would do all the meal prep and eat certain things all day every day. … I also did the opposite of that before I could control my diet and stuff,” she said. “Now I’ve found a pretty good balance. I like to enjoy desserts, sweets, different things. But I also really focus on what I’m eating and what’s going into my body.”
Brittany, who is currently pregnant with her and Patrick’s third baby, noted that parenthood has an impact on the food she eats. “I used to make peanut butter toast with banana and honey and two eggs every morning. But my kids are allergic to nuts now, so I make waffles,” she revealed while sharing her favorite meals. “I make two protein waffles with eggs.”
She continued: “And then for lunch I love fish, so sea bass with coconut rice and some vegetables for lunch. And then for dinner either steak or chicken with – I always have a vegetable as a side dish and then something carbohydrate – so for example couscous or rice or pasta with some vegetables.”
Brittany and Patrick, who were together in high school, have daughter Sterling (3) and son Bronze (21 months). The couple announced last month on Instagram that they are expecting a little girl.
