Sakleshpur (Hassan district): Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said he was ready to accept any verdict of the court in the disproportionate assets case. “I will accept it as God’s gift,” he said.

He was speaking to the media after inspecting the work on Yettinahole project at Hebbanahalli in Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan district on Thursday.

When asked why the CBI had asked the High Court to investigate the disproportionate assets case, he said, “I have faith in God and the court.”

Commenting on the complaint filed against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife, Shivakumar said, “I don’t know why everyone is attacking the Chief Minister in the MUDA case. Nothing will happen to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The BJP government itself has allotted the plots for the acquired land. The Chief Minister has neither used his influence nor signed anything.”

Yettinahole Project

Shivakumar also gave an update on the Yettinahole Lift Irrigation Project. He noted that the trial operation of the Yettinahole Lift Irrigation Project has already been carried out. The project will provide water to seven districts including Tumakuru, Chikkamagalur, Chitradurga and parts of Ramanagar and will benefit around 7.5 million people. At present, 550 cubic feet of water is being pumped per second. In future, the volume of water pumped is planned to be six times more.

“The water extracted now will be diverted to the Vanivilas Sagar. A considerable amount of water needs to be extracted before the monsoon ends. This project is also a proof that the Congress government is keeping its promises,” Shivakumar said.

There is a problem related to acquisition of land belonging to the Forest Department. This problem is being resolved and in some places replacement land has been allotted to the department, he added.

Inauguration

“Yettinahole is an ambitious project of our government and it will be launched on a grand scale by inviting legislators from all districts and the people,” Shivakumar said, adding that the programme will be telecast live.

“Many had criticized the project. Now the criticism has died down and the work will soon be completed. Representatives of all parties and departments that supported the project will be invited,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.

“The water flows through the tunnel for about 1.5 km. The farmers have pledged their support by sparing their land. We should express our gratitude to all of them. The opening date will be decided after a discussion with the Chief Minister. I could not inspect properly on Wednesday as it was already dark. So I stayed back and inspected it again in the morning,” Shivakumar said.
