I suspect if Michael Ciravolo If he were to throw a “work party” for the people in his circle of employees, it would dwarf even the most prestigious music awards ceremony, such is the weight and volume of his address book. In fact, the people attending the fourth Beauty in chaos The album alone would be quite a dazzling gathering of the great and the good of the global music community. There are arguably only two kinds of musicians in the rock world: those who are in Michael’s address book and those who are trying to get his attention. (Citation needed, but I’ll leave it at that.)

If you ask the man himself about the new album Dancing with angelshe describes it as a kind of “sonic regression and sonic evolution” and explains that he has drawn on some of the influences and styles of previous albums, the post-rock of the debut album, the stark sounds that run through The storm before the calm and a touch of the shady dream view of Behind the veil to build the necessary momentum to get started with this new version.

And what a superb record it is, as if we expected anything else. Again, there are many old friends and new acquaintances, big names and more underground musicians. For me and probably many others, the biggest name of all is one of his most frequent collaborators, Wayne Husseywho together with his wife Cinthiajoins Ciravolo for the album’s first single, “Diving For Pearls,” a song that appears in The Missions Carved in sand Epoch.

Julian Shah-Tayler appears on “Kiss Me (Goodbye)”, a song that combines rough guitar riffs with silky synth runs and to some extent reminds of Taylor’s own Bowie-inspired style. The opener “Present Tense” also owes its dark, clinical gothic mood William and Sarah Rose Faithand “Hollow” is the perfect shimmering, gothic pop-rock ballad showpiece for Cynthia Isabella‘s great singing.

The great thing about collaborations like this is Michael Ciravolo’s ability to bring out the best in his colleagues, allowing them to play to their natural strengths while making music that fits naturally under the Beauty in Chaos umbrella. And it is this ability to compose songs that would be at home on both a Beauty in Chaos album and the other artists’ albums, the art of finding the perfect middle ground, that makes albums like Dancing with angelsand actually everything that came before was such a fantastic experience.
