Nat Washington Way to be repaired in spring

EPHRATA – The City of Ephrata has received a $200,000 grant from the Grant County Strategic Infrastructure Program Advisory Committee of the Grant County Board of Commissioners to repair Nat Washington Way.

The grant will allow the cracks and potholes in the road to be filled and repaired in spring 2025. The grant will fund patching areas that have subsided and caused potholes, filling cracks in the road and sealing the road with a gravel and oil sealant that will extend the life of the road by about 10 years, according to Ephrata City Manager Ray Towry.

“That was good news,” Towry said. “As a community, we just haven’t had the opportunity to do a lot of road work, and now to get a grant to help us do that will take the burden off the taxpayer and allow us to do our work. That’s what we want to do. We want to get work done. That’s why we’re here.”

Towry expects the project to begin next spring, but doesn’t have a start or end date yet because the grant approval is so new. He also doesn’t know who the contractor for the project will be.

“This type of work is limited by the season because the asphalt mixing plants are only running seasonally,” Towry said. “They don’t run in cold weather. So since we’re basically in September, I don’t think we’ll be able to get the project completed and organized before the asphalt mixing plant closes. So we’ll start sometime in the spring.”
