Cheyenne Mountain Zoo hosts grizzly bear housewarming party this weekend

COLORADO SPRINGS – This Labor Day weekend, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is hosting a housewarming party for its two grizzly bears, Emmett and Digger.

The event takes place from Saturday to Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Guests will notice that the former grizzly bear boardwalk is gone. Instead, visitors follow a winding walkway. The expansion also gives the zoo the opportunity to house orphaned bear cubs separately.

In addition, you can participate in the following at the event:

  • a selfie photo station
  • dye your own bear claw
  • Experience brand new 6.5 and 9 meter slides

You can also see Emmett and Digger up close in their new ecologically enriched enclosure. If you want to go, don’t wait until the last minute to get your tickets.
“Get them early, it’s a busy weekend so we might sell out,” said Rachel Wright, Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s social media manager. “There are lots of grizzly bear and raccoon-related activities happening throughout the day here at Rocky Mountain Wild. We have talks with zookeepers. We have the opportunity to talk with some of our amazing docents and learn more about grizzly bears in the wild.”
