After an undefeated 2023 season, all eyes are on Michigan football and how they will fare in the coming year. Although they were ranked No. 1 after winning the CFB National Championship last year, they approach the 2024 season ranked No. 8 in the Coaches Poll and No. 9 in the AP Poll. The team is still loaded with talent but suffered some departures in the NFL Draft. However, this has not affected ticket sales as the Big House has officially sold more than 93,000 season tickets. That represents nearly 87% of all seats in the stadium, which has a maximum capacity of 107,601.
Another interesting fact about this year’s ticket success is that Michigan has sold more season tickets than the combined capacity of 127 of the 134 CFB stadiums nationwide. This is a wild statistic, although Michigan’s Big House actually has the most seats of any CFB stadium. Here is the list of capacities (in order) of just college stadiums with more than 93,000 seats:
Capacity: 107,601
Capacity: 106,572
Capacity: 102,780
Capacity: 102,733
Capacity: 102,321
Capacity: 101,915
Capacity: 101,821
100,119
These are the only seven teams (plus UM) that have more seats in their stadiums than UM football has sold season tickets this year. Michigan’s season opener is at home against unranked Fresno State on August 31 at 7:30 p.m. ET. It will be the opening game in NBC Sports’ Big Ten football coverage this year.
