Is your Facebook feed full of birthday wishes?
As of Wednesday morning, users of the social media site reported that their feed was filled with birthday messages sent by all of their friends to a mutual friend, including messages from people the user is not in contact with.
Instead of seeing posts and updates from friends and groups, there were only balloons and congratulations (what could be worse, I mean?).
“Why is my Facebook feed suddenly full of every single post people make about my Facebook friends’ birthdays, even though I’m not friends with the people making those posts?” wrote user @ashjeanmason.
for some reason my Facebook feed was completely flooded this morning with people I am not friends with wishing a friend a happy birthday pic.twitter.com/Ov5IBHMyXn

The vx-underground account on X, which describes itself as “the largest collection of malware source code, samples and documents on the Internet,” said the issue appears to be a “botched change to Facebook’s recommendation algorithm.”
Today, Facebook users noticed a botched change to Facebook’s recommendation algorithm. Users are reporting that their feeds are being flooded with “Happy Birthday” posts… from people they don’t know and to people they don’t know.
tl;dr Facebook is now called “Happy Birthday” and advertising

Facebook has not publicly addressed the issue, although it appears to have subsided in the early afternoon hours.
