Big reveal: 1707 Hertel – Buffalo Rising

Big reveal: 1707 Hertel – Buffalo Rising

A new mixed-use project is planned for the corner of Hertel and Starin Avenue. Forward Development LLC is proposing a five-story building on the site of Deep South Taco, diagonally across from Dash’s Market. The building would include 52 apartments, 600 square meters of commercial space on the ground floor and two levels of underground parking.

Led by experienced Buffalo real estate professional Jacob Stiller, Forward Development held a town hall meeting last night to gather input from neighborhood residents as the company moves forward with the project’s next planning and permitting phases.

“Our project design for 1707 Hertel Avenue aims for a classic aesthetic to ensure the building’s appearance remains appealing over time,” added Stiller. “It is also important to us to provide our residents with a welcoming home that promises comfortable living in a friendly neighborhood.”

Forward Development has engaged several partners, including Line 42 Architecture, for its 1707 Hertel Avenue project. The project places an emphasis on sustainability and energy efficiency while offering its residents several expected amenities, including on-site underground parking.

The project aims to achieve Passive House certification by adhering to design principles that seek the highest levels of energy efficiency to create healthier and more comfortable living spaces. Passive houses require significantly less energy for heating and cooling, achieving savings of 80 to 90 percent compared to conventional construction methods. The project’s focus on sustainability is extended by Forward Development’s plans to use mass timber as the primary building material.

As a sustainable and innovative product, solid wood typically speeds up certain construction and installation processes while providing a distinctive and appealing look with exposed wooden beams and ceilings.

Jacob Stiller is the founder and CEO of Forward Development. The company will leverage his experience as a real estate professional to develop projects that create community and provide an exceptional experience for residents. Through his career in real estate, he has developed an understanding of the needs of Western New York State neighborhoods and the role of development in improving the quality of life.

“North Buffalo is a great place to live and work, and we want our project to enhance the vibrancy of the neighborhood,” said Stiller. “We plan to take a community-focused approach that invites residents to get involved and adds to the neighborhood’s sense of place as we work together to strengthen Hertel Avenue.”
