BU, CU, ISU and OSU receive awards for second week of Big 12 soccer

Baylor’s Callie Conrad (offensive) and Iowa State’s Ella Zimmerman (defensive) won the weekly awards for best field position, while the Bears’ Azul Alvarez and Colorado’s Jordan Nytes shared Goalie of the Week honors. Oklahoma State’s Bella Pierotti rounded out the week’s honors, earning Freshman of the Week honors.

Conrad helped the Bears win the Outrigger Invitational in Honolulu, snapping a three-game winning streak. The sophomore scored the only goal in the 73rd minute.rd minute against Hawaii and then scored another game-winner to secure a 1-0 win over Portland. Conrad was named Baylor’s first Offensive Player of the Week since Jackie Crowther in the 2018 season.

Zimmerman was active in the Cyclones’ game against Northern Iowa on Sunday after missing the 1-1 tie with Drake due to injury. ISU’s defense held Northern Illinois to four shots on goal while the Panthers allowed a season average of nine shots per game. Zimmerman was active on both ends of the court, scoring her first career goal and an assist in the 6-1 victory.

Alvarez played all 180 minutes and kept two clean sheets against Hawaii and Portland. During Wednesday’s game, the junior made a career-high seven saves against a Hawaii team that outscored Baylor 14-8 in shots on goal. She then made five saves against Portland, giving her 12 saves and a 1.000 goals-against average for the week. It’s her first career weekly honor and the first goaltending honor for Baylor since Jennifer Wandt in 2021.

Nytes earned Colorado’s first Big 12 Weekly Honor in 14 years after not allowing a single goal during the week. She played 70 minutes as goalie for the Buffaloes against Wyoming, making eight saves as the team earned a 5-1 victory. The junior then held Michigan scoreless and made four saves, adding to her league-leading 25 saves this season. This is her third Big 12 Weekly Honor of her career, after earning two awards in her first season at Oklahoma State in the 2022 season.

Pierotti became the third Cowgirl to earn a Big 12 soccer honor this season, earning Freshman of the Week honors in Week 2. Her first collegiate goal was the game-winning shot that propelled OSU to its 32nd career win.and Bedlam won with a 1-0 victory over rival Oklahoma. It was her only shot on goal of the game. The freshman then played a career-high 49 minutes in OSU’s 4-0 win over Central Arkansas, where she helped OSU to its first 4-0 start since 2017.
